Bring A Friend Day

The studio will be running “Bring a Friend Days” throughout the month of May. Each student should have already received an invitation from their teacher which can be addressed to one of their friends. To alleviate overcrowding at the studio, each teacher has a designated week in which their students are invited to bring a friend to class. Please see the schedule below.  Also, please note that the friend’s parents must fill out and sign the “Liability Release” on the back of the invitation before participating in class.  It is your friend’s choice as to whether he or she would like to participate in the class or just watch. This gives dancers an opportunity demonstrate what they have been working on throughout the year and it is also a wonderful way for students to work together with their friend as a team.

Early Registration

A discount will be offered to students that pre-register for the 2012/13 dance season. The new schedule has been tentatively set and pre-registration forms are available at the studio. Classes do fill up quickly, so to avoid disappointment, please register early. Also, please note that pre-registration prices only apply until July 3^rd, 2012.

Recital Costumes

You may have noticed that costumes have started to arrive at the studio. We ask that all costumes remain hung up in or out of the bag (to reduce wrinkles) and not worn until dress rehearsal. Please remember that you only get one costume and Allegro is not responsible for replacing or repairing any damaged or lost costumes or accessories. Details for hair and makeup will follow shortly.

Recital

The year-end recital will be on Saturday June 23^rd and Sunday June 24^th at The Oakville Centre for Performing Arts. There will be two shows on each day at 1:00pm and 6:00pm. Most dancers will perform in only two shows on the same day (either Saturday or Sunday) with the exception of a few classes and competitive dancers that will perform in all four shows. Please check the schedule on the bulletin boards to see which day(s) you are dancing on.

Dress Rehearsal

There will be two dress rehearsals on Friday June 22^nd, also at The Oakville Centre for Performing Arts. The first dress rehearsal (for Saturday dancers) will start at approx. 3:30pm. The second dress rehearsal (for Sunday dancers) will start at approx. 6pm. All dancers must attend the dress rehearsal.

Backstage Help

If you are not watching both shows, your help backstage would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to volunteer, please print your name on the sign up sheet that will be posted in the studio.  We will require approx. 15-20 adults per show to look after the younger dancers. Please remember, if you sign up for backstage help, you will not be able to watch the show from the audience and you will have to stay backstage for the entire performance. During the show, only volunteers will be allowed backstage with the exception of Creat .Mov. parents.

Recital Tickets

Recital tickets will go on sale Thursday, May 24^th at 11am and will be $12.52 + $3.98 box office service and handling charges ($16.50 total) with part of the proceeds going to the New Oakville Hospital. Tickets will be sold through the Oakville Centre Box Office at 130 Navy St. or over the phone by calling 905-815-2021 or on their web site at www.oc4pa.ca. Tickets will be available on a first come first serve basis and there will be no limit. To avoid disappointment please remember to purchase your tickets early as tickets have sold out very quickly in previous years.

Pictures

We will be having picture days on Tuesday, June 19^th, Wednesday, June 20^th and Thursday, June 21^st. All photos will be taken at the studio and there will be no charge to get your photo taken. Every student will have two individual shots in each costume as well as a group shot with their class. A 3×5 (individual photo) and a 5×7 (group photo) will be printed and ready to purchase from the photographer on the day of the recital. Additional enlargements and packages may be ordered through the photographer (Henry Mendel) on the day of the recital or by mail. A picture schedule will be posted shortly.

Last Day of Classes

This year’s dance season will conclude on Monday, June 18^th. This is the day of classes that was added to the year due to Halloween falling on a Monday.

Summer Camp

Allegro will be offering 2 summer dance camps this year.  The first one will run from July 16^th- 20^th and the second from August 13^th – 17^th. Both are junior camps for students ages 4-10 yrs old and will run from 9am-12:30pm. The cost of the camp is $154.87 + $20.13 hst ($175.00) and will include three classes per day, snacks and crafts. Registration forms are now available on the boot rack.

Recital DVD’s

A DVD of the recital will be available through JH Video which is an established company that we have used for the past four years. DVD’s are ordered directly through JH Video, however you may pick up and drop off your forms at the studio – they will be available shortly. Just a reminder, the Oakville Centre for Performing Arts does not permit any video recorders or flash photography. This rule is enforced by the ushers.

Customer Appreciation Day!

Mark your calendars for the 2^nd Annual Allegro School of Dance Customer Appreciation Day on Wednesday, June 27 from 5-8pm. Clowns, Face Painting, Bouncy Castles, Pony Rides, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and More! All FREE of charge!!!! We hope to see all of you there.

Congratulations to Abigail Bergman and Dasha Metropolitansky who were both accepted into the full time program at Canada’s National Ballet School! Abigail and Dasha joined Allegro dancers, Isabella Lecomte, Caragh O’Mahoney and Breanna Weber in Toronto during the month of July. After a preliminary audition, all five girls were invited to participate in a vigorous month long intensive at the National Ballet School which was also the final stage of the auditioning procedure. Other former Allegro dancers that are currently studying at the full time program in Toronto include Alexandra Hall, Olivia Lecomte and Sebastian Lecomte. Once again, congratulations to all dancers. We are so proud of you!

2012-13 Registration Form

The studio is run by artistic director and principal teacher, Laura Dacyshyn. Once a professional ballet dancer, Laura has had the good fortune to train with the world’s top instructors, including those who worked with prodigies such as Karen Kain, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gelsey Kirkland. Today, as a teacher and studio owner, she is uniquely qualified and honoured to pass on the same philosophies that inspired her lifelong passion for movement and dance. As a testament to her teaching success, many of Allegro’s students have been accepted into the prestigious National Ballet School’s summer and full-time program.

With the right balance of encouragement and qualified instruction, every child can develop into a strong and expressive dancer. Students of the Allegro School of Dance always receive first-class training in a fun and rewarding environment where dancers shine as individuals.
